For people who don’t need to be in a hospital but can’t be cared for at home, a nursing home is often times one’s only option. Typically, a nursing home will have nurses and nurses aids available around the clock.
Some nursing homes are set up very much like a hospital, where the staff provides medical care, as well as speech, physical and occupational therapy. After a serious surgery or accident which requires a longer recovery time, hospital patients, regardless of age, are frequently sent to a nursing home to recover. These facilities are usually better equipped than even the best hospitals at helping people recover. Insurance companies like them because they cost much less.
